By: Mentor / Mentee Pair, Amore Moore and DeShawna Conner

Ladies, how often do we go out to the mall or on a store run by ourselves? For most of us quite often. Well here are the statistics for sex trafficking in Michigan and some tips on how to stay safe. As of June 30, 2018, there have been a total of 1,801 victims of sex trafficking.

Tips for parents on preventing their children from being trafficked:

  1. Setting a high standard of love
  2. Talk about sexual abuse
  3. Talk about sex trafficking
  4. Talk about dangers of social media
  5. Pay attention to your children
  6. If you have an iPhone and so does your child, have them share their location with you

Tips for Women:

  1. Avoid walking alone
  2. Do not trust so easily
  3. Act swiftly if suspicious
  4. Be aware of your surroundings
  5. Meet strangers in public places
  6. Share your location with your parent and or friend you trust

If you think that someone may be following you while driving, drive to the nearest police station. Make sure to always keep mace on you and when going to malls and stores park as close to the door as possible. Do not park next to big vans where you can’t see your surroundings.
